SurfMaster DV (tapped coil for 2 sounds -both Zero-Hum)
Covers without Logo are an option when ordering
SurfMaster-DV (Dual Voice) now available with Tapped coil for vintage as well as a non-tapped modern strong sounds like our 'Extra' version. This model was designed as replacement for Fender's Jazzmaster American Pro II bridge pickup but can also be used in the neck position on other models. Supplied with a 3PDT mini toggle switch. The 3rd pole switches the hum cancelling coil so the pickup has Zero-Hum in both tapped and non-tapped modes. It's tapped coil position sound is extra glassy pure vintage and position 2 (non tapped full coil) produces a louder more aggressive thicker Fender sound ... something like the latest *Extra* bridge model, both have Zero-Hum. (Read the Report Cards above) The DV is available for both the regular version as well as our 'Extra' version for the bridge. Each SurfMaster-DV is supplied with it's own solderless fast-connect 3PDT mini toggle switch which should be installed on the pickguard anywhere within the Red boundary indicated in the picture below in the Technical section. Update: 26-March-2024. Fender's original DPDT PushPush switch in the American Pro II is not suitable unless you are prepared to accept a little bit of hum (still 90% noiseless). And so too is the original slide switch in regular Jazzmasters with the same caveat.but we could compromise the hum cancelling ability somewhat should it be desired not to use our 3PDT mini toggle switch and retain the original Fender switch.
US Patents 7,022,909 & 8,791,351 Technical & Application info:
Kinman pickups for Jazzmaster are direct replacements and no modification to the guitar is required. Our standard 52mm spaced covers are interchangeable with USA, Japanese and generic Korean covers but our narrow 50mm and 47.5mm version covers are not. A White, Parchment or Black cover is included. Covers without Kinman Logo are an option when ordering. There are no other noiseless singular coil Jazzmaster pickups with Alnico rod magnets. Kinman is the only one and that makes it the coolest Jazzmaster pickup available.
The coil splitting switch(s) can be installed anywhere within the area indicated by the red boundary line. We include a template and simple instructions for drilling the 6mm hole to mount the coil splitting mini-toggle switch.
As with all Kinman Gen-2 pickups they are very sensitive to height adjustment. A good starting point so the basic SurfMasters (tapped coil) balance is with the two E strings fretted at the 15th fret, adjust as follows ... and after listening further adjust to your personal taste.

We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in Tech Info even if you think you know it all. Kinmans' require specialized knowledge and sometimes there is updated info. We also highly recommend consulting the Adjust & Set-up page in Tech Info so you get the best out of your Kinman pickups. ** Alnico-K is a unique proprietary rod magnet developed by Kinman in 1985. It is Alnico-5 but has 40% less string pull than Alnico-5 so sustain is longer and there is much less clatter from string crash and no Strat-itis string warble. * Fender and Jazzmaster are registered Trade Marks of Fender Musical Instrument Corp, Inc. Kinman is not associated with FMIC but they kindly permit us to refer to their Trade Marks to describe our products.
