Surfmaster DV

I am extremely happy with my matched set of a Surfmaster DV and Surfmaster DV Extra. The dark and syrupy coil tapped settings manage to avoid being flubby and boomy, and they contrast sharply with the very bright and biting default setting. I am pleasantly surprised that the volume difference between those settings is not all that wide. I was a little concerned that I'd lose the snappy attack when switching over (1) from single coils, but I'd be hard pressed to notice a difference - other than the fact that these are dead quiet in every position. I've included out-of-phase, series/parallel, and rhythm circuit wiring configurations with my DVs, and can attest that each of them compliment these pickups nicely. I'm using 500k volume and tone - they sound great. I'm especially fond of putting both pickups in series, using the dark coil tap settings for both, and putting them through the rhythm circuit with a little transparent drive - very smooth and gooey without turning into mud. It's possible to get a pretty wide frequency range out of these (especially on the top end), which is nice if you want to be able to sculpt subtractively through effects, which I do.

The wiring and installation were fairly straightforward, (2) but I would advise having at least moderate wiring and troubleshooting skills if you plan on tackling it yourself. The pricing is very premium, but I'm not disappointed, and I think these pickups will live in my guitar permanently. They are made to order, (3) so be advised that there is a bit of lead time involved. I've only tried five or so different sets of Jazzmaster pickups, but I can say with confidence these are the best I've played.

1)  I think he meant to use the word 'to' not 'from' which makes no sense.
2)  This customer used his own splitting switches but our included switches have a 'no brainer' color code.
3)  Our DV model is intended as a replacement pickup for Fender's Jazzmaster American Pro II bridge pickup and this customer was the first to order two pickups so we spent an inordinate amount of time developing a neck model that compliments the bridge.  Shipping normally occurs per our usual 5 day from order finalization.

This customer is over-the-top critical and scathing about some, what I thought to be justifiable, edits that I made to his original post.  So I have reposted his original Report Card verbatim and underlined the parts I saw fit to change with my reasons.  Of course this renders the report difficult to read and grasp and some of you will be completely put off with this extra layer of complexity.  However, please presevere because these pickups are beyond excellent and despite them being 'noiseless' (Zero-Hum) they sound even better then a lot of noisy single coils.  We here at Kinman are extremely proud of our little company that has an outsized footprint.
