SurfMaster DV (tapped coil for 2 sounds -both Zero-Hum)SurfMaster-DV (Dual Voice) is now available, it has Tapped coils for vintage as well as a modern strong sounds like our 'Extra' model. This model was designed as replacement for Fender's Jazzmaster American Pro II bridge pickup but can also be used in the neck and bridge position on other models. Coil splitting is done with a 4PDT switch which is needed for also switching the hum cancelling coil so the pickup has Zero-Hum in both modes. It's position 1 sound is extra glassy pure vintage and in pos 2 it's a louder more aggressive thicker Fender sound ... something like the latest *Extra* bridge model, both have Zero-Hum since the lower hum-sensing coil is also tapped. SWITCHING Options: Preferred is a replacement Fender S1 push/push switch 4PDT, available on eBay for around $25 and another $10 for the separate knob. It can replace either the Volume or Tone control. Otherwise we can supply an optional 3PDT mini toggle switch which should be installed on the pickguard anywhere within the Red boundary indicated in the picture in the Technical section (below). Fender's original DPDT Push\Push switch in the American Pro II is not suitable.

All nomenclature is laser engraved so you'll never forget. And it looks cool too.
Kinman pickups for Jazzmaster are direct replacements and no modification to the guitar is required. Our standard 52mm spaced covers are interchangeable with USA, Japanese and generic Korean covers but our narrow 50mm and 47.5mm version covers are not. An optional White, Parchment, Ivory or Black cover is included along with mounting screws. Fender's S1 switch can replace the existing volume or Tone control. Otherwise our coil splitting toggle switch(s) can be installed anywhere within the area indicated by the red boundary line. NB: for minimum Electrical Noise (buzz which is different from hum) it is recommended the entire control cavity be shielded with grounded conductive paint or copper foil.
As with all Kinman Gen-2 pickups they are very sensitive to height adjustment. A good starting point so the basic SurfMaster (tapped coil) balance is with the two E strings fretted at the 15th fret, adjust as follows ... and after listening further adjust to your personal taste.

We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in Tech Info even if you think you know it all. Kinmans' require specialized knowledge and sometimes there is updated info. We also highly recommend consulting the Adjust & Set-up page in Tech Info so you get the best out of your Kinman pickups. ** Alnico-K is a unique proprietary rod magnet developed by Kinman in 1985. It is Alnico-5 but has 40% less string pull than Alnico-5 so sustain is longer and there is much less clatter from string crash and no Strat-itis string warble. * Fender and Jazzmaster are registered Trade Marks of Fender Musical Instrument Corp, Inc. Kinman is not associated with FMIC but they kindly permit us to refer to their Trade Marks to describe our products.
