Tele Bridge in Strat - Magnum Opus

Finally, a Strat bridge pickup with the true sound of a Telecaster bridge pickup.  It's so good we make it under our premium "Magnum Opus" label.

Consider one of these for your project parts guitar for an eye catching, intriguing new look and ear catching bigger bolder bridge pickup sound.  You can always revert to original Strat pickup but we are pretty sure, after experiencing our 55mm one, you won't want to.  This thing sounds incredible ... guaranteed to put a huge grin on your face.

And here it is, the PERFECT Strat bridge pickup ....notice the perfect string-over-magnet alignments.
This one is our fabulous AVn-60b Gen-2 Tele bridge model and it sounds incredible with
the extra MAGIC that Strat pickups can not produce.

Available in all our Zero-Hum Tele bridge models ..

  • AVn-60b  Gen-2    (one hellava super twangy Tele sound and Zero-hum)
  • AVn-48b  Gen-2    (two steps hotter than the 60b, think Dick Dale's "Misirlou")
  • Impersonator 52b  Gen-2    (True vintage twang)
  • Bridge Blaster  Gen-2    (Like the name says, it's a blast)
  • Kick-in-the-Arse  Gen-2   (the sound of a raucous P-90)

We are calling it "The 55", not because of any year.  No, it's the 55mm magnet spread of a Tele bridge pickup, as distinct from the 52.5mm Strat model, not only aligns far better with the strings, it also improves the sound in quite a noticeable way.  Once you experience it you won't want to go back to 52.5mm.  The difference is so startling that we now make a Custom 55mm model with 2 mounting screws that are conducive to Strat pickguards.

We have been contemplating this for years and we have finally taken the plunge.  Why?  For several good reasons.

  1.  To get a True Tele sound in a Strat the 55mm magnet spread of a Tele pickup is needed.  Yes, that additional 2.5mm makes a huge difference.
  2.  Strat bridge pickups with 52.5mm struggle with string-over-magnet alignment and really never win. This new 55mm provides perfect string-over-magnet alignment.
  3.  Now our customers have yet another choice, and it's a double win.

That's the great news, now we have to explain the small modification that is required.  Tele bridge pickups are slightly bigger than Strats so the opening in the pickguard must be enlarged.  If you are a handyman you can file it to size with a round and a flat file and use sandpaper to smooth the edges.  Or, you can have a replacement pickguard made with a standard Tele bridge opening.

Routing and design templates and CNC files are available in the Technical section below.

Pot & Capacitor values

  • Best with 250k Ohm (measured minimum) volume pot.  Less punch and more bright with 500k like a real Tele pickup.
  • Tone pot is usually the same value as the volume but for a little more top end brightness can be 500k, 1meg or a No-Load.
  • Stock pots can actually measure as low as 175k.  Pots in our Goodbye-Soldering Harness are guaranteed to measure no less that 250k.
  • Normal tone cap value of 0.022uF, 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester.  Smaller uF value lessen the severity of Treble cut, higher values increase it.
  • The voltage rating of Caps is not important but 63 ~ 100 volt have thicker lead wires that result in a neater job.

Magnet spread

  •   55mm - standard Tele bridge

Mounting hardware included

  • 2 x 4-48 UNC Pan head mounting screws.
  • 2 Silicon Rubber tube springs.

Mounting screw spread

  •  72mm (same as Strat pickups)

Magnet Staggers

  • Normal improved Stagger to suit 7" ~ 14 inch uniform radius fretboards including USA Custom Guitar Compound 7-1/4" ~ 9-1/2
  • Flat Stagger 14" ~ 20" for specific compound radius fretboards (Warmoth 10 ~ 16 inch and Post 2010 Fender Deluxe 9 ~ 14")
  • Option to choose your magnet stagger for sets and singles in our 'After-Payment Supplementary Questions' email we send you.

Hook-up cable

  • 3 single wires is standard.  Shielded wiring cavities are required to minimize electrical buzz noise.
  • 2 conductor shielded cable is optional

Output Polarity:

  • in-phase with all other Kinman pickups
  • in-phase with Gibson and Copy humbuckers
  • opposite phase to Fender Strat (phase reversible with 3 Conductor hook-up cable)

We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in the Technical section even if you think you know it all.  Kinmans' require specialized knowledge and sometimes there is updated info.  There is also a handy wiring diagram available.

We also highly recommend consulting the Adjust & Set-up page in the Technical section so you get the best out of your Kinman pickups.

** Alnico-K is a unique proprietary Alnico rod magnet developed by Kinman in 1985.  It is Alnico-5 but has 40% less string pull than Alnico-5 so sustain is longer and there is much less clatter from string crash and no Strat-itis string warble.
