Overview - Kinman transforms Jazzmaster into THE BEST Fender guitar

NEWS: J Mascis himself loves our ThickMaster and now has 13 sets of them in his guitars.

Upgrades:  1) Grounded magnets are now standard on all models as from July-2017   2) Now with reduced height for easy install into excessively shallow cavities.

Jazzmaster pickups are in fact the best Fender type pickup because size does matter and these are BIG and have the most dynamic range of any Fender pickup, or should we say have the potential to be the best.  We believe Leo actually wanted a huge, lush round sound from his Jazzmaster with his wide flat coil design but he stopped short of his goal and ended up with too much brightness which compromises girth and the gnarly trebly sound is the reason it did not achieve wide popularity among the Jazz fraternity at the time.  Using our advanced materials and Electrical Engineering know-how we found ways to go where Leo wanted to take this Jazzmaster .... in the direction of a lush P-90.

The Jazzmaster is a cool guitar but the pickups are more noisy than other Fender pickups and since the beginning guitar players have been forced to endure annoying mains hum from their Jazzmasters.  That got worse when modern players began using Jazzmasters under gain.  But, as with the very use of Jazzmaster, things have changed and in May 2013, after 4 years in development, Kinman has come to the rescue once again and designed a Zero-Hum (noiseless) pickup that delivers dramatically improved Jazzmaster sound.

We have been wrestling with the problems of hum cancelling for Jazzmaster pickups since 2008 and it has taken this long to find a solution that does not compromise the unique characteristics of Jazzmaster sound.  The BIG challenge  was to fit a hum cancelling Jazzmaster pickup into the confined space available without resorting to routing the pickup cavities and to not let the compressed design of the pickup compress or compromise the sound quality.  To this day Kinman is the only one to have achieved this goal and that makes the Kinmans the coolest Jazzmaster pickups available.

These are the coolest Jazzmaster pickups available not only for their amazing dynamic range, dramatically improved and varied sounds but also for the total absence of mains hum.

These pickups will make your Jazzmaster more desirable than practically any other Fender guitar and provide perfect string-to-magnet alignment for the J Mascis Jazzmaster as well as when narrow Mastery, Staytrem, Tune-O-matic & Adjusto-Matic bridges are fitted.

Kinman’s unique proprietary low string pull Alnico-K** magnets allow increased sustain and reduced string crash and fret buzz.

All of this combined with Zero-Hum makes these new pickups unbeatable.  Now you can take your Jazzmaster into the studio, sit in front of a computer or crank it up live on stage with distortion devices and enjoy great sounds from your Jazzmaster and never be bothered by main hum.

Some people will call these noiseless Jazzmaster P-90 pickups but Kinman prefers to describe them correctly as Zero-Hum Jazzmaster pickups.  That's because there are 2 types of noise, Hum which is cancelled in the pickup and Buzz which can only be minimized by shielding the wiring cavities (refer to >Technical >Perfect Guitar >Shielding for newer guitars
Fortunately most Jazzmasters come with shielding already in place

Kinman pickups for Jazzmaster are direct replacements and no modification to the guitar is required.  Covers are NOT interchangeable with USA, Japanese and Korean covers because the magnet holes will not align with our custom magnet spreads.  A White, Parchment or Black cover of your choice is included.  See Magnet Spreads below.

Only Kinman offers 3 magnet spreads so the magnets align with the strings for perfect string loudness balance because a stock Jazzmaster bridge with 55.6mm saddle spread has wider string spread than with Mastery, Staytrem, Tune-O-Matic or Adjust-Omatic bridges which have 52mm saddle spread.  Manufacturers of these bridges neglected to consider string to magnet alignment but Kinman has the solution.

Magnet spreads

  • 52mm for bridge pickup & 50mm for neck pickup with stock 55.6mm Jazzmaster bridge saddle spread.
  • 50mm for bridge pickup & 47.5mm for neck pickup with 52mm bridge saddle spread of J Mascis model as well as Mastery, Staytrem, Tune-O-matic & Adjusto-Matic bridges.

Number of parts in this pickup: 28
Number of parts in regular single coil: 10
Number of parts in other brand noiseless: There are no other noiseless Jazzmaster pickups with Alnico rod magnets.

Kinman reserves the right to change specifications from time to time as required for improvement or sourcing of component parts.
